6. Demonstrate tying the square knot (a joining knot).
Necessary item:
* The Class A uniform shirt is best to get at the Scout Shop so you can try on the best size and then get the next size larger. However, it is possible that the Scoutmaster has some used ones (usually $15.00) in stock.  


7. Understand and agree to live by the Scout Oath or Promise, Law, Motto, and Slogan, and the Outdoor Code.
Optional (but suggested) items:
* Book cover (highly recommended if opting for the spiral Book)
* Class-B T-shirt (for outdoor meetings, hiking, and projects)

8. Describe the Scout badge.

9. Complete the Pamphlet Exercises. With your parent or Guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet "How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide."

10. Participate in a Scoutmaster Conference: Turn in your Boy Scout application and health history form signed by your parent or guardian, then participate in a Scoutmaster conference.

* 4a: Show how to tie a square knot, two half-hitches, and a taut-line hitch. Explain how each knot is used.
** b. Show the proper care of a rope by learning how to whip and fuse the ends of different kinds of rope.
* 5. Demonstrate your knowledge of pocketknife safety.
* 6. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet, ''How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parents Guide,'' and earn the Cyber Chip Award for your grade. (If your family does not have internet access at home AND you do not have ready internet access at school or another public place or via a mobile device, the Cyber Chip portion of the requirement may be waived by your Scoutmaster in consultation with your parent or guardian.)
